The steaks here are really good, but not great. I have eaten here often, and find that for the money it is the best deal for the money. One warning, if you like a medium rare steak, order it rare. They tend to overcook. Oh, and try their chili. It is served by the bowl or by the cup and it is outstanding. Salads are crisp and cold and while they are not fancy, the dressings taste homemade. I have never had a bad meal here, but cant say I have ever had a great meal. I will definitely be back however.

Excellent barbecue, especially the pork ribs and sausage. Brisket is pretty good too. I usually order a brisket po boy. Stuffed with moist beef and covered with a really tasty sauce, this is a wonderful sandwich. I also am addicted to their fries. Other sides are ok, but the fries are hand cut and cooked perfectly. I am getting pretty hungry thinking about it. A lot of people come here for evening music in the beer garden. I just come to stuff myself on tasty BBQ.

Not as good as the great NYC delis, but for Austin, Texas, PRETTY GOOD. The owner has built his reputation on some pretty good corned beef and pastrami. Stick to the sandwich and breakfast items and you wont be disappointed. I like the Reuben sandwich and their corned beef hash. Bagels are only so-so, but try their potato pancakes with your over easy eggs for breakfast. Pretty good eats.

BBQ places are hard to rate because getting a good piece of meat may depend on which part of the brisket is being sliced, or what time of the day you get there. The Iron Works is the closest BBQ place to my home so I eat here frequently. From time to time, I get dry brisket or ribs. But that is OK because most of the time it is moist and delicious. They serve huge beef ribs here. This is not a common BBQ restaurant item, but they season them to perfection and serve them hot from the smoker. Brisket is fine, but the sausage is a standout here. Sides are good, and they have some killer pecan pie. When firing on all cylinders, you won't get better BBQ anywhere.

Hill's has opened, closed, re-opened, closed, and re-opened again several times over the years. Currently, it is owned by a local radio personality and has been doing business under his ownership for several years. I have eaten here maybe 6 times in as many years. At the early visits, the wait staff was terrible. They were inattentive and in some cases rude. Friends tell me that they still find the wait staff to be disinterested and pre-occupied but I believe they have gotten better. I think the steaks here are too tough for my tastes. They are famous for their chicken fried steak, but I dont care for the heavy seasoning. On the other hand, they make a TERRIFFIC burger. Its the only thing on the menu that I order, and it is on of the best in Austin. If their other items were as good as the burger I would rate the place much higher.

I eat here once or twice a year because they have the best Hawaiian style steak in Austin and because their side salad is palatable. Having said that, everything on the menu is overpriced for what it is. The management tries to pretend that this is a prime steakhouse even though there is no prime beef within miles of the place. The wait staff can be very pretentious for reasons that are completely lost on me. For some reason the place draws consistent crowds. As I think about it, probably because they do serve the best steak in their North Austin neighborhood. But if you want a better staeak served in a more elegant style, go downtown.

I visit San Angelo about once a month and often visit this place. It is not one of the best steak places in the world in my opinion, but they make a very good steak. Particularly for the money. Nothing over priced. Oddly enough, they have some excellent fried seafood here. I know that it cant be as fresh as seafood near the coast, but it is perfectly seasoned and breaded. My guilty secret is that I am addicted to the wonderful yeasty bread that they serve here. It is hot and melts in your mouth and I cant get enough of it. Oh, and the wait staff is EXTREMELY helpful and polite. They are some of the nicest people in San Angelo.

This is not the best Mexican food I have ever had, but I rate it highly. Some of the best ribeye I have had in San Angelo, and I have had many, was served here. It is a very nice space. Clean, cool and busy. The staff is polite and efficient. Go for the meat dishes and you will be happy.

This place has iconic status with some in San Angelo, but I rate it mediocre. It is essentially a steak place with a full American menu. They have a lot of German style schnitzels that are passable but not great. Sides are very institutional and salads are nothing to write home about. The steaks, which are the big draw, do not rate with the prime steakhouses like those found in the big cities. I dont care for the seasoning at Zentners and I found the meat to be a little tough. Prices are ok, but who wants to pay even a dime for an overcooked and dry hamburger? I love burgers but couldnt swallow the one I was served here. Ate here three times. Had steak, jaegerschnitzel, and the burger. Wouldnt order any of the three again.

Good, but not great BBQ. I had the "big chop" which is, in fact, a huge pork chop that is smoked and then dipped in an addictive sauce. Liked it very much. The sides are fantastic. Never ate green beans as a kid, but I could eat the whole pot of them here. Obvisouly they are cooked with smokey barbecue fat in the liquid. Delicious.

Had lunch here one day. It is a small fast food type place but the kitchen is quite slow. Burger was ok, but there are certainly better burgers for the price to be found in San Angelo. Wont be going back.

Zentner's has been sold and the name has changed. I ate there anyway, and had a very disappointing steak. The service was very good and friendly, but the steak was only so/so and the sides were very institutional. Not expensive, so you wont spend a lot of money to see if there is anything on the menu that you like. Simple menu, mostly inexpensive steaks.

This little Korean place has maybe a dozen tables or so. Is open from 10:00 am until 8 pm. I travel to San Angelo about once a month and I eat here every time. Forget the overrated steak places in San Angelo and get your asian fix at the Red Pepper. Everything is fresh, expertly prepared, and TASTY. Their fried items are crisp and greaseless. They have a fried appetizer which is a jalapeno stuffed with dumpling stuffing and deep fried in tempura type batter. Best appetizer of any kind anywhere. Their bulgoki is authentic. Oddly enough, they have two versions of sweet and sour beef, chicken and shrimp. Go for the spicy version. It is the finest Americanized asian food I have ever put in my mouth. Services is friendly and helpful and I don't think anything on the menu is over $9. I have eaten in Chinatowns all over America and at numerous Korean places. This is the best Asian food I have ever had
